Mindfulness Meditation (Vipassana) Mindfulness meditation involves experiencing whatever thoughts goes through the mind, without reacting to them. By training your mind to observe, without reacting or thinking your mind becomes clear, and calm. Mindfulness-based meditation is actually based on Buddhist Vipassana meditation. Since I only teach meditation in Studio City, California, I cannot speak for the rest of the country, however, I can say that here in the Los Angeles area, where I am a meditation guide, there has been a sharp increase in the number of people who are interested in meditation. I think there are several reasons for the increased interest in relaxation and fitness techniques like meditation and yoga. The difficult and stressful financial situation that many people are living through has prompted many people to try to find a way to relax and deal with stress. Another reason for the new interest in meditation is the study that was done by the National Institute of Health. There study revealed[..]

Vipassana is taught as a silent 10 day live-in course initially and has a very strict schedule of meditation, eating and sleeping. Once you have completed a 10 day course you are then able to do further 3 day courses and it is recommended you repeat the 10 day course at least once a year. For more dedicated meditators the course is also run as 30 days in some centres. There are no charges for the course, food or accommodation but each centre is run solely by volunteers and by donations. Once you have completed a 10 day course you are able to donate to the centres and you are then also able to volunteer your time and indeed it is recommended that you give back in this way so that other[..]

Mindfulness Meditation Instructions Mindfulness meditation instructions couldn't be simpler. While there are variations about what you put your attention on that I'll discuss in a moment, the gist is always the same: Put your attention on the object of concentration and keep it there without interruption. Simple, right? Well, as anyone who has tried this can tell you, No, it's not simple. How 'bout this instruction: Stand on your head, without falling, for 4 hours. The instruction itself is just as simple. That's why I semi-joke that to be a meditation teacher all you need to do is nod your head knowingly and say, "Go back to your practice." It's the execution of that instruction that's[..]

Meditation is simply making a choice to focus your mind on something and opening to each moment of life with calm awareness. Mediation is inspired by a variety of spiritual traditions, both Eastern and Western, helping people to experience the sacred. Meditation is a very powerful tool for healing body, mind, and spirit through reducing tension, anxiety and stress; lowering blood pressure and cholesterol; creating stronger focus and concentration; and increasing self-understanding and self-acceptance. ?Meditate? comes from the Latin word meditari, which means ?to engage in contemplation or reflection.? It also means ?to focus one?s thoughts? on something, or ?to reflect on or ponder?[..]
